£1 Trillion Pounds Spent on Plasma TVs for the Unemployed

The national debt has recently topped one trillion pounds, almost as many as the number of Chinese working for a bowl of rice a day.

We have been handing out plasma tvs to the unemployed for too long. There is no money left. The nation's credit card has run out.

Now Simon Jenkins is saying we should drop money out of the sky to boost growth.

You can not spend your way out of recession. Not unless you want to become Zimbabwe. What's more, most of this money will no doubt go to idle scroungers who have nothing better to do than hang about the streets waiting for money to fall from the sky. No doubt they will immediately spend it on iphones, plasma tvs and foreign holidays. Decent, hardworking landlords like myself won't see a penny.
